HOW OUR LAW FIRM IS DIFFERENT
Explaining to you how we’re different requires an explanation of what the “traditional” experience with a lawyer is like. If you’ve worked with a business lawyer to set up your business entity for you, or review an agreement, or establish a trademark, deal with an infringement or an unhappy customer, this will sound familiar.
During the traditional experience, you’ll go in and meet with a lawyer who may make things seem very complicated and confusing. Or, perhaps it will seem super simple. Your lawyer doesn’t ask many questions, but instead just tells you what to do.
You’ll have a good idea that the lawyer is smart and seems to know what she’s doing, so you’ll nod as if you understand everything. Because you want to do the right thing for your business, you’ll have the lawyer prepare a document for you, or review your contract, and you’ll feel relieved that you’ve got “that” taken care of.
You’ll take your fancy planning binder home, stick it on a shelf or in a drawer, mark “incorporation” or “trademark” off on your checklist as done and never think about it again.
You might remember your lawyer said something about maintaining your corporate records, or updating your trademark, or having your contracts reviewed. But, you’re busy with the business aspect of things — marketing, sales, growing your team, bringing in revenue, building out your business model — and you’ll forget to think about it again.
Until something happens…
A customer complains. Or you have a big dispute with your business partner. Or you see someone on the internet using your content. Or you get a letter in the mail from the IRS or the state tax board. Or the labor department. Or your account is garnished because you overlooked an important letter. Or you have a team member that you didn’t handle quite right when you let him go.
So, you call your lawyer and find out that it will be a $5,000 or $10,000 retainer for him or her to even look at the matter. And she’ll be billing her time against that retainer in six-minute increments.
And now, you’re stuck. You’re in reactive mode. You didn’t maintain your business entity properly. Or you never finished that agreement with your business partner. Or you didn’t document your employee policies properly. Or you didn’t have the right insurance in place to cover you. Or you didn’t have the financial systems set up so you could manage all of this. And, you’ve definitely been overpaying on your taxes.
HOW DO I KNOW ALL THIS?
Because before I started my own law firm, I traveled around the country serving small business owners for a legal consulting firm and I served clients the traditional way that most law firms do and I swore it would never happen to my clients when I started my own law firm.
Unfortunately, what I discovered is the legal industry was not designed to serve growing businesses who experience lots of change on their way to success. It was designed to serve big companies, and online document services and “legal shield” type pre-paid legal services have popped up to serve the smaller companies with less than $5 million of revenue.
The problem here though is that smaller companies need good guidance, and you won’t get it with a pre-paid legal provider, or with an online document service.
OUR FIRM HELPS YOU FULFILL ON YOUR VISION AND DREAMS
What makes our firm different is that we are here not just to create a set of documents you will likely never update or look at again until something goes wrong, or you get in trouble.
We are here to proactively ensure that your legal, insurance, financial and tax (LIFT) foundations are solid enough to meet the dreams, visions and goals you have for your business.
Often, that’s not the case.
That’s why we start off our work with you by understanding you, your business, where you are right now and where you want to go in the future.
Then, we evaluate your legal, insurance, financial and tax (LIFT) foundations to determine if you have holes that are keeping you from getting you to where you want to go.
We’ve been told by many of our clients that the experience of looking at their whole LIFT foundation with us was exactly the kind of eye-opener they needed to see where they were either being unrealistic with the plan for the use of their time, energy, attention and money and reaching too far without a strong foundation, or allowed them to see where they were thinking too small and could play a much bigger game.
We understand you are busy, you are growing, you desire a life and business of prosperity and you value ease, convenience and efficiency. You want to know you’ve made the best decisions for your business.
That’s our focus too. We’ve developed unique systems to advise you on the whole LIFT picture of your business, not just the incorporation, or the intellectual property, or the contract.
Now, if you do have a single matter you need help with immediately, we can definitely do that. And, we’ll quote you a flat rate to do it. Included with that flat rate will be a comprehensive review of your legal, insurance, financial and tax systems, so that going forward you don’t have to worry that something unexpected will spring up and catch you by surprise.
Instead, you can build your legal, insurance, financial and tax costs right into your financial projections and know exactly what to expect and when to expect it.
We find that the key to a healthy, wealthy, and not stressful, business comes from being able to predict the future. And while we aren’t psychic by any means, we do know what it takes to be able to predict if you are going to run into trouble, or not. And, how to keep you on course for the life and business you want.
We’re looking forward to serving you, and hope this was helpful as you prepare for your Business Breakthrough Session.
PS — If you think this all sounds like it would be expensive, well, you are right and you’re wrong. The LIFT Business Breakthrough Session will save you far more than the time and money it costs. And we guarantee it. You’ll leave the Session with more clarity about your business than you’ve ever had before, or we’ll refund what you’ve paid for the Session.
